ALTRUSANS will once again support this project by making hygiene kits. The kits will be distributed as part of a project supporting students in the BISD. Last year Altrusans gathered together to provide hygiene kits for students who participate in this project. Each child received a full size bottle of shampoo, creme rinse, a wash cloth, and a bar of soap. 1300 kits were pulled together in support of these Belton students to help start their school year right. The Apple Tree Project brings many community members together to insure that many children begin school with the basics for their needs so that their focus on the first day is on school. Altrusans of Temple were proud to be a part of this community effort.

The juried show attracts art from area high school students and college students with amazing talent for expanding the possibilities in a mix of disciplines. Painting, sculpting and more is explored at the hands of budding talent. Join the parents, students and teachers who will celebrate the talent shown by each student's work selected for the exhibition.
Families In Crisis
Altrusans continued the support of the Temple shelter which serves victims of family violence and assault this year for Make a Difference Day. An expansion of the Born Learning Trail was installed inside the safe and secure play area to serve as an educational tool to enhance reading and mathematics skills for young children. The trail also encourages interaction between parent and child to develop skills at an early age for young children and to increase the participation of parents in the learning process.
In 2008, Altrusans joined with the Leadership Temple team to help fund improvements to a donated building in Temple which is now a shelter for victims of family violence. Altrusans donated $10,000.00 toward kitchen and laundry appliances and provided food, linens and toys along with many other items for the opening of the shelter.
Altrusans continued their support on "Make a Difference Day" by painting the dining facility in the Killeen shelter, leading the way to trim the shrubs for security, and doing other chores for clean-up at the shelter. Altrusans worked along side other community volunteers to insure that this facility met the needs of its residents.
Altrusa built another partnership to fund a new security entrance for the Killeen shelter. Altrusans and Medical Alliance of Bell County, Texas, joined together to raise funds to replace the main security door for the safety of the residents.
Altrusans particpated in the "Art of Peace" Project Funding from this event supported the Children's Advocacy Center. CAC works with children who are victims of family violence and assault. The event will support peace at home, abroad and within every citizen. Visit the website to see how art and pinwheels will impact peace for children in Bell County.
