CARING BALL:
changing lives of thousands
with millions

Each year Altrusans of Temple work with the members of the Medical Alliance of Bell County, Texas, to host and plan Caring Ball for the benefit of the Temple Community Free Clinic. Since its inception, this event has contributed over $1,000,000.00 to support health care at the clinic for the working poor. Services provided at the clinic include monitored care for chronically ill patients suffering with diabetes and hypertension as well as other conditions. Over 80 medical professionals donate their time to provide patient care. Volunteers work with these healthcare professionals to provide support in screening and file management. Recently, medical students have joined the efforts to support quality care for the patients that qualify for services at the clinic.
The clinic serves the working citizens of Bell County, Texas, that either cannot afford health insurance or who cannot afford the treatment and services needed even with health insurance due to the deductible requirements of their coverage. Many qualifying patients discover improved health with regular visits to the clinic because of their ability to obtain assistance to maintain appropriate medications and treatment for chronic conditions. Qualifications for care at the clinic are based on household income, number of persons in the household and other factors.
The Temple Community Free Clinic is a project that was developed through the Temple Chamber of Commerce Leadership Temple Program under the guidance of Dr. Jeff Jackson and Dr. Gopal Guttikonda. Its continued growth in service to the community is due in part to the fundraising and volunteer efforts of the Altrusans and members of the Medical Alliance of Bell County, Texas. Without their efforts over the years, the Caring Ball would not have enjoyed such success and become such a magnificent example of what women in leadership can help make happen when they expand and develop their talents.
