Central Texas Altrusans making a difference
Altrusans band together to celebrate
Altrusans from the Central Texas club and from the Temple club will gather this Christmas season to compare success stories on fundraising and literacy projects. Temple Altrusans sponsored the formation of the Central Texas club which meets in Harker Heights each month. Altrusans from across the county enjoy sharing fundraising ideas and projects to support the entire Bell County community.
Guests are welcome and encouraged to contact Altrusa of Temple to reserve a seat through the Contact page on this website. This is an excellent opportunity to learn what Altrusa has done in the past year and participate in where these women will donate their time and money in the coming year.
Projects over the past twelve months have included scholarships, sponsorships of students for tutoring in the arts, assistance to the Literacy Council to train tutors to assist adults with reading skills. Altrusans in Temple host an annual luncheon and style show in November to fund the entire year's worth of projects. Monthly programs including guest speakers highlight the needs of Bell County and give the Altrusans insight into how to utilize the funds for the most impact.
May 5, 2010
Altrusans of Central Texas celebrated their first anniversary since the date of their charter. The group is already making an impact in the Central Texas Community by contributing hours of service and donations to the new pediatric playroom at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen, Texas.
Once each month scissors and fleece unfold at the Killeen Mall as Altrusans of Central Texas gather to create warmth and coziness for young patients at Metroplex. Fringed fleece blankets are cut and tied to warm up the children seen at Metroplex Hospital as patients or newborns. Each child receives a hand-tied fleece blanket and an age-appropriate book bagged in a blue bag encrusted with the Altrusa logo. Altrusans began this project of service last year and it continues as this club's signature project to promote literacy. If you would like to assist with the project contact Altrusans through this website and we will connect you with the coordinators of the project. You can help by donating funds to cover the cost of fleece, attend a work session to make the blankets or by donating children's books.
Altrusa International, Inc., of Central Texas was chartered in January of 2009. This group of Altrusans meets once each month and supports education and other services for the Central Texas area through donations of their time and talent. They meet each month at the Harker Heights Community Center on the fourth Tuesday evening of the month.
